Very ornamental, climbing variety that grows purple pods. Young pods can be eaten like mangetout and then later as fresh peas. They can also be left to dry. Dried peas can be used in soup, stews etc.
This heirloom variety was developed by Dutch Capuchin monks in the 1500's.
